About this deal

If you doubt the confidence of these Frenchies, how about the fact that the album starts off huge with the singles "One More Time" and "Digital Love" These are followed by "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger," one of the few songs that can make me do the full Woodman olympic-edition dance (another one is "Vibeology"). It's much poppier than Homework and has most of the hits you might know by them (no "Around the World" though). Ultimately, Discovery is less of a mission statement than its predecessor, but no less danceable or listenable. So I’ve got this 2 disc version of the Discovery Album, and it’s the same songs on both sides of one of the discs. Published by Chesyl Publishing, performed by The Imperials, used by kind permission of Power Exchange. All the copies of 'Discovery' were released with a 'Daft Club' card included that permitted a web access to the Daft Club (Daftpunk. Other than, it’s a great album, side 1 has all the ones you’ll know but keep listening and you’ll get more of the same. Two years later we made the move to our present address, 35 The Headrow, where we have remained ever since. After a spell of being aggravatingly out of print, Daft Punk's Discovery finally repressed on their own Daft Life imprint.

While my opinion of that excellent piece of animation is mixed (I just didn't dig the story or think most of it matched the songs all that well), it did something to me. Very quiet in between tracks that aren’t gapless with lots of crispy bass and everything sounding even and true, levels are great and no discernible distortion towards the middle of the disc, probably helped by the fact that it’s a 2 disc affair and the run out on each disc is pretty large keeping a lot of the “music” towards the outer edge as much as possible.Digital Love" starts off silly and gets sillier, but the monosyllabic lyrics lull the senses just right, allowing the song's summery groove to grab hold with authority. With no frills or fluff, every original track on their third album from 2001 appears here in crunching glory, not sounding an inch rougher or time-weathered. The album features six singles, 'One More Time', 'Aerodynamic', 'Digital Love', 'Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger', 'Face to Face' and 'Something About Us'. The keyboard noodlings of Jean-Michel Jarre are in there somewhere, along with the otherworldly imagery and giant hooks of '70s rock icons like Boston or even Electric Light Orchestra.

The French twosome behind Daft Punk, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel De Homem-Christo, get away with an awful lot.The most famous track on the album is probably Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger having been sampled by Kanye West. I can't believe it took me until 2012 to actually get the whole album rather than only knowing 2 or 3 of the most famous singles. There are dashes of 1999-era Prince and oodles of new wave and disco cheese, from Harold Faltermeyer and Gary Numan to the Bee Gees, all set off with efficient house beats. These guys can go on for hours about who their influences are, and in fact spend much of the album doing so. Everywhere on the record, gigantic beats are dropped with pinpoint precision, giving songs a momentum that transforms repetitive melodies into sudden revelations.
