About this deal

These weatherstrips also help to keep the internal air in the property and help with energy saving costs on heating or air conditioning. Getting something totally free is likely to get a true MoneySaver's heart pumping faster than any cardio workout ever could. If you don't have space for the thicker PIR boards then an insulated foil blanket is an alternative, although these often have limited insulation effect in our experience due to their thin construction. By sealing the gaps along the door frame, you can significantly cut down on the infiltration of sound, light, drafts, moisture, fire, and smoke. This brush seal screwed to the lower edge of a front door looks like it’s keeping draughts out but the thermal images below show that it's not very effective.

So, can anyone recommend an insulation strip that will offer flexibility to allow the catch to work as well as offering a similar level of insulation. The main problem is the hinges are just sloppily done and too small (bolded because I think they are a hazard as is), you want the portion of the hinge holding the door further up so it is not supported on an edge of timber. With these hygienic seals, you have the option to specify the colour of the seal, with a completely white seal, white backing with a black seal, or brown backing with a brown seal. If the chimney flue isn't too wide, you should be able to seal it by simply stuffing some wool-type insulation into the opening. If your loft hatch isn’t properly insulated, it could become a cold spot in your otherwise insulated loft. Each of these openings in the building fabric is a potential source of draughts if not properly sealed. Important Note: Please do not send goods back to Roof Giant before speaking to the Roof Giant sales office. Wooden windows and doors are particularly bad for this as they shrink, swell and warp during the seasons, potentially leading to large gaps.

Insulating a loft hatch is a simple, cost-effective DIY job that keeps the heat in and the cold out of your property. Sellotape will be almost invisible and I've found it to be surprisingly durable, even when stuck on the outside. Some years ago I made some 'sausage like' draught excluders of plastic stuffed with loft insulation and pinned them around the framework. Draught-proofing won’t prevent heat loss in the same way that insulation will, but it will stop cold air from passing through the gaps and into the space below. You can prevent it gluing the door shut by applying a liberal coating of Vaseline to the moving surface.

This generally requires the floorboards to be removed, and some form of insulation to be installed between the joists, before re-attaching the floorboards or replacing them with a modern plywood sheets. The hatch then rests against that post when shut and it’s on that post that we apply a rubber ‘P’ seal as illustrated in the diagram below. Modern polystyrene has a fire retardent, and on a draughtproof loft hatch by the time fire has got into the loft the house is a goner anyway (and so would anyone still in it be).

If you have a flat loft hatch, the easiest way to insulation is to use self-adhesive foam tape and stick this onto the surface of the frame facing up into the loft space. Barclays will shut at least another 77 bank branches throughout 2024 and 2025 after announcing 20 more closures. Dean’s been treading the boards (loft boards that is) for 20 years and counting, so if there’s something about lofts that this man doesn’t know about, then trust us, it ain’t worth knowing! If the item comes direct from a manufacturer, it may be delivered in non-retail packaging, such as a plain or unprinted box or plastic bag. If you have a breeze coming down your open chimney, try a universal chimney draught excluder to ensure you never feel the chill again. Low Energy Supermarket accepts no responsibility for any electrical item purchased being installed and any item is fitted at owners risk. For unused keyholes (or those used from one side only) you can seal with a little strip of self-adhesive tape.
