Mistborn: Secret History
About this deal
If any character besides the Immortal Indomitable Jasnah Kholin was going to come back from the dead, it would be the Survivor of Hathsin.
If you're not inclined to dig into fan theories for explanations, you'll want to have The Emperor's Soul under your belt as well to understand some foundational concepts. The Final Empire surprised a lot of people by killing him off, and while Brandon's been hinting to fans that he was hanging around on the Cognitive through Hero of Ages for literally years, the loss of Kelsier as a focal character seemed like a certainty. Following his death at the hands of the Lord Ruler, Kelsier meets Preservation before he "passes on" to the Beyond.
This story was planned while writing the original trilogy and was worked on here and there for years. kinda feel that should have been stated in the description, would have saved me getting my hopes up for something new! The mechanisms behind what happened in the original Mistborn trilogy are complex and difficult to grasp at the best of times, but this complicates things even more. The novella follows the story of Kelsier from the time of his death in Mistborn: The Final Empire and concludes with the events of the last book in the original trilogy, The Hero of Ages. He appears to Spook in a dream, affirming his pride of the young man, and instructs him to warn Vin not to trust anyone pierced by metal. If you’ve read all of my adult fantasy novels and want to see some behind-the-scenes information, that collection is a must-read. This is a story which I would strongly not recommend reading unless you want to be majorly spoiled for the main Mistborn series and also get hints at some of the things which happen within the Wax and Wayne series.
