About this deal

One of the last distillery's to operate in the centre of a town, Oban distillery dates back to 1794. A rich, sweet and fruity nose with notes of oranges, lemons, pears and traces of sea-salt and peat smoke. There is also some cut wood and a little sweetness on the palate, with fruit and dried oak notes on the long finish. Fine single malt whisky has been made in Oban for over 200 years, in one of the oldest licensed distilleries in Scotland. The General Wine Company is a family-owned and operated wine merchant in Liphook, Hampshire, England.

Built in the centre of Oban as a brewery by town founders John and Hugh Stevenson, distilling began in 1794. While we have taken care in preparing this summary and believe it is accurate, it is not a substitute for your reading the product packaging and label prior to use. A review of this single malt is definitely long overdue, and I realized that rectifying this gap in Malt’s archives would be great for the site and its readers while also serving as an excellent way of getting myself back into the rhythms of writing. Oban 14 Year Old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky has flavours of rich fruits, smoky dryness, honeyed spice, and a whiff of sea salt distinguish this full-bodied Highland malt. A good lingering finish with the orange zest flavour slowly fading out only for the underlying smoke to endure and last a little longer.

I agree with others that it is overly sweet, but this would be a positive if you were new to scotch. This “dustiness” manifests in slightly various ways depending on the whisky; when it comes to this one, it leans more toward stale chocolate chip cookies. Overall A true classic, Oban's 14 year old is a great coastal dram for lovers of lightly smoked, fresh malts. A little salty; a little malty; honey sweetness, big orange zest (amongst other citrus fruits); and a lovely underlying smoke that doesn’t really overplay it’s part. Founded in 1794 at Argyll, the distillery was initially operated as a brewery but began distillation shortly after.

Oban Distillery is a Scotch whisky distillery located in the town of Oban on the west coast of Scotland. It underwent a refurbishment in the 1890s and there has been little change to the present buildings since then. If you do require precise ingredient information you should consult the manufacturer, whose contact details will appear on the packaging or label. This cookie is set by Rubicon Project to control synchronization of user identification and exchange of user data between various ad services. The distillery tour was a lot more fun than what I expected from Oban’s parent company _Glen Mordor_ er, I mean Diageo. The tiny lamp glass-shaped copper pot stills that make Oban’s Scotch are among the smallest in Scotland, and the liquor they distill is slowly condensed in wooden worm tubs outside among the rooftops, exposed to the salted sea air, bringing a distinct depth of flavour said to go very well with salted caramel. The cramped nature of the site places severe limits on production, which in turn means that demand for Obans richly appreciated malt is always likely to exceed supply.
