About this deal

Over two hours worth of Hans Zimmer compositions get a new life on Hans Zimmer LIVE, a new live double-album commemorating the legendary German composer. In his time at Collider, Aidan has lent his expertise to writing stories about a number of different topics. I assume Hans himself approved this mix prior to release, so I guess it must be right - but it doesn't sound as good as it could or should do. After writing about film music occasionally, he thought it was time to create his own site to celebrate music from film but also other media.

He has been honored with two Academy Awards®, three Golden Globes®, four Grammys®, an American Music Award, and a Tony® Award. In addition to the album news, Zimmer also announced a series of new European tour dates for next year. The album was recorded during the highly successful same-named concert tour in Europe in spring of 2022. That team of collaborators includes two bassists: upright master Andy Pask and six-string guru Juan Garcia-Herreros, aka Snow Owl.Speaking of Zimmer, Nolan said: “To me, there is no composer working who has done more to define the sound of contemporary films. Therefore to learn that Hans Zimmer, one of my all-time favourite film music composer was going to release a live album were really good news in my book.

Zimmer has completed highly successful Hans Zimmer Live tour stops around the globe and most recently concluded the first leg of his European tour in April 2022. Non-personalized content and ads are influenced by things like the content you’re currently viewing and your location (ad serving is based on general location). Hans Zimmer has composed some of the most epic soundtracks to films, and lately, he’s been performing that music on tour. In his career, he has earned two Academy Awards, four Grammy's, three Golden Globes, and countless more awards and nominations. Recording took place over the span of 10 nights, alongside Zimmer’s 20-piece band “The Disruptive Collective.Other soloists include Andrew Kawczynski (synthesizer, percussion), Pedro Eustache (windwoods), Refi (vocalist), Rusanda Panfili (vocals), Guthrie Govan (guitars), Andy Pask (upright bass), Aicha Djidjelli (drums), Steven Doar (percussion, keyboards), Molly Rogers (vocals), Juan Garcia Herreros [Snow Owl] (electric bass), Nile Marr (guitars), Leah Zeger (vocals), Holly Madge (drumkit), Aleksandra Šuklar (percussion). The Disruptive Collective” features musicians who have been working together with Zimmer for a long time such as the singers and composers Lisa Gerrard ( Gladiator), Lebo M.

The album makes listening to the actual music more accessible and personal, and it also makes me appreciate the craft of Zimmer’s band even more.

It is also great to finally hear some excerpts of "The Last Samurai" live, and it's always a pleasure to relive moments of "Inception" and "Interstellar". The significant focus on this band of musicians also has a bit of a downside to me because, as someone who adores Zimmer’s orchestral scores, the more orchestra-focused pieces like The Gladiator and The Last Samurai sound a bit off to me: the orchestra and choir sound a bit too clean, like I am listening to a studio recording, instead of live orchestra members.
