About this deal

So far I have added 37 Shelly devices to my home and I can find plenty of more uses that I plan to add as time and budget allows. Here is what I have added and what they do:

Shelly 1 ponuja celovito rešitev za avtomatizacijo vašega stanovanja, hiše ali pisarne in pomaga znatno zmanjšati porabo električne energije in znižati stroške, brez potrebe po spremembah obstoječega ožičenja

Shelly 1

The Shelly 1 Plus i4 builds on the Shelly 1 Plus by supporting up to four different input devices. This makes it even more versatile and convenient for managing multiple devices or circuits with a single smart relay. Pros & Cons Shelly 1 Recently I came across a range of devices from a Bulgarian company called Allterco Robotics, they use the Shelly Cloud branding and produce a range of products including relays, power monitoring, lights, motion sensors and a host of add on’s. They also have a growing ‘Pro’ range that includes Din mounted 4 way relay and energy monitoring. What Will Shelly Do? The hardware design is awkward at best. I absolutely appreciate the form factor, but whoever was in charge of the design is not an electrician for sure. Shelly 1 comes with 5 connectors. It’s a number that hardly makes sense and here is why: Before you can control the device again, you’ll have to add it to your account again as a new device. DEVICE REBOOT In addition to being able to control the lights with the phone, the main reason I installed these are to save on power consumption. We were constantly leaving the lights on and I have it set where lights automatically shut off after 4 hours. I also have all the lights set to shut off when we leave the house.

It’s a direct competition to Sonoff Mini (review) so when it comes to these switches you have options. I have a post running these side by side for you (soon). Shelly 1 specs If you only see only two wires (sometimes earth cable as well) connected, your lights are fed through the ceiling and your Shelly 1 has to go inside the light-fitting hole. Extra cables? Detached: (Button and Switch) - Set Shelly device to be in Detached switch mode - switch is separated from the relays.Auto on: After turning off, the relay output will be automatically turned on after a predefined period of time (in seconds). Due to Shelly 1 design GPIO pins share HIGH VOLTAGE when the device is powered via mains! Do not use GPIO when the device is connected to mains. They have a great range of products that cater for multiple use cases, from plug and play bulbs to the Uni which could be integrated into many appliances or devices. There is no shortage of devices aiming to convert your house to a smart home. I have tried many devices over the years from major brands including TP-Link and Belkin to less mainstream manufacturers like Sonoff. I have dabbled in WiFi, Zigbee and Z-Wave ecosystems from Ikea and Devolo. I have also installed Efergy to get insights on my energy consumption at home and my EV. All have their good and bad points and I never committed much to any particular platform or manufacturer, instead opting for unification under the Alexa umbrella as a lightweight home Automator. Introducing Shelly Don’t get me wrong, splicing cables isn’t impossible, I’m handy with tools and I still don’t feel comfortable splitting a 220V cable three-way and the only safe method I can think of are WAGO type connectors which just add to the final cost of installation and increase the chance that you will run out of space. It’s a disappointment that Shelly 1 didn’t go Sosnoff Mini way and got us 6 terminals to make it all work.

Auto off: After turning on, the relay output will be automatically turned off after a predefined period of time (in seconds). There are plenty of resources like the support forum and other users with lots of experience to leverage. Another strange design decision was to glue the enclosure together. There is a jumper switch (12 -220V control) inside, which can be only accessed if you open up the enclosure. Since the case is glued up together, you have to be extra careful not to break the plastic when opening it. Installing near the switch

My ‘random’ 12V wall wart from the junk box actually supplies 12.4V. Contrary to another review, I seem to have no issue being slightly above 12V. But then again, perhaps it accounted for some of the flakiness when I first powered them up before I had switched them to my home network. Choosing between Shelly 1, Shelly 1 Plus, and Shelly 1 Plus i4 depends on your specific needs and preferences. It’s Wifi based so no need for hubs or gateways. I have good wifi coverage indoors and out provided by 3 TP-Link Deco X20 and 3 Deco M5, which is capable of managing 150 network devices. The software (web server and the app) is feature-rich and it comes with REST API that can be used alongside the smart speakers (looking at you Sonoff DIY Mode). It’s great, as, unlike Sonoff devices, you can use Alexa, Google Assistant and the designated app alongside controls from Home Assistant, NodeRED and pretty much anything else that supports HTTP requests.
